METAMORA, Ill. โ The Metamora Park District is closing its community pool for good when the summer ends.
The park district made the announcement Wednesday on Facebook, citing decreasing turnout at the pool, along with increasing costs in labor, repairs, and management.
MPD has sought help from the Metamora Village Board of Trustees for an intergovernmental agreement for funding to extend the poolโs life.
It says the community has also asked for improvements throughout the village, such as basketball courts at Black Partridge Park, pickleball courts, and a more inclusive and accessible community center for all ages.
While the park district says those are ideas worth considering, it cannot if it keeps sinking tax dollars into the pool.
MPD is asking community members to have discussions on creating a new facility that could include meeting spaces, recreation opportunities, to even the possibility of a new pool.
