TREMONT, Ill. – The Tremont Turkey Festival is underway, with turkey sandwiches, hot wings and Strawberry Shortcakes for everyone.
The annual festival kicked off Thursday night with dozens of vendors and carnival rides…something Elizabeth Graber and her brother, Sam, from Morton tell 25 News, they come back for each year.
“I have lots of favorite rides! My mom does not like the Ferris wheel; she does not like heights,” Elizabeth said.
“It is really fun! All the rides are epic, and the food is good here. It’s just fun,” said Sam.
The Tremont Turkey Festival dates back to 1966, when an out-of-town turkey farm sponsored the local school uniforms. The festival was named in their honor.
Tremont Commerce Association’s Secretary Rachel Berchtold tells 25 News, the festival gets bigger each year.
“I’m from Tremont, born and raised, and so to watch the community come out, and everyone comes home for the Turkey Festival is so heartwarming; it’s the most fun week of the year,” Berchtold said.
Besides great food, there’s the bed races, an antique tractor pull, and parade that ends the Tremont Turkey Festival Sunday at 2 p.m.
