PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria Police say a 16-year-old boy has been arrested for accidentally shooting another teen Sunday afternoon.
PPD Spokesperson Semone Roth says the teenager was arrested for alleged reckless discharge of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon, and possession of a handgun under 21.
Police initially responded to a shooting around 4:45 p.m. Sunday, that left a teen in the area of Huntington Drive and Alan-A-Dale Lane with a gunshot wound to his upper chest and shoulder.
The teen told officers that he and another teenager were handling guns when one went off accidentally.
The injured 16-year-old was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The teen that allegedly fired the gun was found in possession of the handgun before the shooting occurred, according to Roth. He was taken to the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center.
