PEORIA, Ill. – A man has been found guilty for failing to report an accident that left the Peoria Firestone store manager with a permanent disability.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 45-year-old Christopher Shea was found guilty Friday in a bench trial for the September 9th accident.
During the trial, the manager and several store employees testified that Shea arrived to pick up his car after being repaired, then grabbed the keys and took off.
The manager then jumped on top of the car on the driver’s side, and fell off in the middle of the road as Shea drove away. The accident caused a traumatic brain injury, and the manager was bleeding heavily from his right ear.
Shea reportedly never stopped the vehicle, returned to the scene, or reported the accident.
Shea had testified that he never intended to pay for the repair work, but never saw the manager on his car. Prosecutors say that was proved otherwise by witness testimony.
Shea is scheduled to be sentenced on August 19th.
