PEORIA, Ill. – A teenager accused of being in possession of multiple weapons must remain in jail.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says a petition to detain 18-year-old Korion Hopkins was granted by a judge Monday.
Prosecutors allege police on June 19th viewed an Instagram live streaming video of Hopkins from his West Peoria home, where he displayed several firearms, including an AK-style rifle and a handgun with a “switch” to make it fully automatic.
Hopkins and a 16-year-old were arrested last week on a search warrant in the area of Laura and Cortland, where six guns were confiscated.
Prosecutors say preliminary testing reportedly linked four of the weapons to shell casings recovered from 20 recent shootings.
Hopkins is expected to receive additional charges from a grand jury next month.
The 16-year-old remains in the Juvenile Detention Center for Violation of Probation, and is expected to receive additional charges.
