PEKIN, Ill. – A new vote-by-mail service will give Tazewell County voters the ability to track their vote once it’s mailed in.
Tazewell County Clerk John Ackerman says the county has contracted with KnowInk, a Missouri-based company, that will outsource the printing and mailing of vote-by-mail ballots for all future Tazewell County elections beginning with the 2024 presidential election in November.
Ackerman says the new contract will save Tazewell County taxpayer money, while providing voters with a tracking system that will monitor their ballot as it moves through the U.S. Postal Service.
The popularity of vote-by-mail has steadily increased since the 2020 Presidential Election, as the nation dealt with Covid-19 restrictions at that time.
Ackerman says the new permanent vote-by-mail option is especially popular with voters.
Almost 8,000 vote-by-mail ballots have already been requested. Ackerman predicts 12,000 vote-by-mail ballots will be requested before the November 5th presidential election.
Ackerman says recent delivery problems with the U.S. Postal Service influenced Tazewell County’s decision to provide voters with a way to track their ballot.
