BRIMFIELD, Ill. – The donation of land just off Interstate 74 in Brimfield is leading to a new healthcare facility in the town.
OSF Healthcare announced on Thursday the donation of 3.5 acres of land at the corner of Route 150 and Maher Road to build the new facility.
Rita Kress says the donation of land is “returning the favor” to a community and town that has been good to them. She says the amount of land given provides OSF the freedom to build what they need.
“It was instrumental for us with St. Francis to give a good amount of land so they would have flexibility in the future to meet the community needs,” Kress said. “Not be confined, not have enough parking, we wanted enough land to do what they wanted and needed to do.”
What the exact plans are is not known at this time. OSF Healthcare Chief Operating Officer Mike Cruz says a newer and bigger facility is needed, and it will serve as a general healthcare clinic. But he says it will also be adaptive and add specialized services needed the most in Brimfield.
Cruz says it will also feature the latest in technology, which is easier to put in a new building, rather than retrofitting an older building. He expects the design for the building to be completed in 2025, with construction to be finished a year after.
Doctor Robert Bevill has been serving the Brimfield community since 1988, and says the new facility could also bring new workers to the town.
“Recruiting new physicians will be much easier, because we have a limited lifespan as well. And so recruiting other doctors in the future to a state-of-an-art facility is way easier than coming to an older facility,” Bevill said.
Bevill says the commitment to build a new facility means easy access to healthcare will continue in Brimfield.
