PEORIA, Ill. – A man accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend in the back in Peoria’s East Bluff on Wednesday has been ordered to remain in jail.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says a petition to detain 23-year-old Deandre Ward was granted by a judge at a detention hearing Friday.
Ward is charged with aggravated battery with a firearm.
The state’s attorney’s office says the 22-year-old female victim was allegedly shot in the lower back by Ward just after 1:00 P.M. in the area of Wisconsin and Virginia.
The shooting reportedly occurred after the victim, armed with a knife, fought with another female.
The state’s attorney’s office says the victim survived the shooting, but is now paralyzed.
Ward is due back on court on August 7th for an arraignment hearing.
