BUTLER, Pa: Former President Donald Trump has reacted to being injured during a shooting that occurred Saturday at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania outside Pittsburgh.
Posting on his Truth Social media page, Trump said, “I was shot by a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin.”
“Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening,” Trump said.
The shooter’s identity and motive were not immediately clear.
A Washington Post reporter said on social media one audience member is dead and another person is in critical condition, citing the Butler County district attorney.
“I want to thank the United States Secret Service, and all of law enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania,” Trump said at the beginning of his social media post.
“Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the rally who was killed and to the family of another person that was badly injured.”
“Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead.”
Trump concluded his statement with, “GOD BLESS AMERICA!”
