PEORIA, Ill. – A man has been sentenced to more than a half-century in prison for a Central Peoria shooting death two years ago.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says Rev Blakes received a sentence of 52 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on Monday.
Blakes was found guilty in April of First Degree Murder in the death of 32-year-old Michael Davis Junior, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon.
The state’s attorney’s office says Davis was enjoying a barbeque with family when Blakes arrived on a motorized bike and started arguing over money.
Prosecutors say Blakes then pulled out a gun and shot Davis as the argument escalated, then shot him three more times as Davis lay on the ground.
Blakes then fled the scene and threw the gun in a nearby creek.
