WEST PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria County Coroner’s Office says the victim of a weekend officer-involved shooting died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.
Coroner Jamie Harwood said Donald Wison, 46, suffered immediate loss of intravascular blood volume and died instantly.
Peoria Police says four officers responded to a call regarding a violent male just 12:30 p.m. Sunday in the area of Sherman and Western.
Officers identified Wilson and said he had a warrant for a violation of an order of protection.
Wilson reportedly ran to a garage when police arrived, started a fire, and swung a shovel at officers.
Peoria Police say two officers used tasers while the other shot his firearm.
Peoria Police say all four officers have been placed on critical incident leave, per department policy, and Illinois State Police are investigating.
