PEORIA, Ill. – Tazewell County has found a way to save a significant amount of money on some of its government bulk mailings.
Tazewell County Clerk John Ackerman says KnowInk, the company Tazewell County recently outsourced its Vote-By-Mail services to, alerted officials to a non-profit bulk mail rate available for local election authorities.
“We started talking and they said, have you thought about how you could utilize this lower postage rate for other things? And, I said, absolutely we have not…why don’t we take a look at that, and maybe we could save another $10,000-$15,000,” Ackerman says.
The lower rate will save the county a lot more than Ackerman expected.
“By utilizing that new non-profit postage rate, we’ll save Tazewell County taxpayers over $110,000 a year,” Ackerman adds.
He tells WMBD’s “Greg and Dan”, Cook County is the only other county in Illinois to utilize this cost saving measure, and they only recently implemented changes there.
Two of Tazewell County’s elected officials have asked the County Board join them in encouraging local Congressional legislators to allow lower cost postage for all County Government Mail.
If that change was made, Ackerman says Tazewell County could save almost $32,000 more each year on postage.
