CHILLICOTHE, Ill. – A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection to a shooting at an apparent after prom party in Chillicothe in April.
The shooting occurred in the early morning hours of April 28th at the Valley Lakes Center on Ivy Lake Road, where an 18-year-old victim was found with a gunshot wound to the head.
Deputies say 48 shell casings were located at the scene, along with a vehicle and a trailer damaged with bullet holes. The victim was allegedly found to have a firearm in his waistband, which was later discovered stolen from Texas.
Peoria County Sheriff Chirs Watkins says the 16-year-old was arrested Wednesday in Peoria in the area of Perry and Monroe without incident.
He was charged with Aggravated Battery with a Firearm and No FOID, and taken to the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center.
Watkins says 18-year-old Korion Hopkins, who is already in the Peoria County Jail on previous weapons charges, received the same charges in connection with the shooting.
Watkins says detectives identified both males as shooting the victim the night of the incident.
