PEORIA, Ill. – The manager of Big Al’s in downtown Peoria is accused of deleting video footage of a shooting inside the establishment last month.
The shooting occurred at around 3:30 A.M. on July 21st, where witnesses told police a fight broke out and someone reportedly pulled a gun out and fired two shots in the air.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 45-year-old Renee Cipolla told detectives the following day the video system’s memory was full and automatically deleted video of the shooting.
Prosecutors say the IT company refuted that statement, and says Cipolla reportedly asked them how to delete videos from the system.
Detectives were able to seize the system and recover the video, and identify 42-year-old Jerry Watson as the one firing the shots.
Peoria Police says Cipolla turned herself in Wednesday and was charged with Obstructing Justice.
Watson was arrested (Tuesday and is charged with Armed Habitual Criminal, with the state’s attorney’s office saying a petition to detain him was granted on Wednesday.
