PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office has filed First Degree Murder and Attempted Murder charges against a man accused of shooting and killing his girlfriend.
Prosecutors have also filed a motion to detain 43-year-old Stevie Linwood after his arrest Monday in connection to the shooting.
The shooting occurred just after 8:00 P.M. Sunday at a house in the area of El Vista and Leroy Avenues.
Prosecutors say Linwood’s girlfriend, 35-year-old Zaneta Winters, was found shot in the doorway. She was pronounced brain dead Monday after being shot in the back of the head.
Witnesses say a neighbor of Winters’ came to help when she was also shot, with Linwood allegedly standing over her after the shooting and walking away.
The neighbor is listed in critical condition.
The state’s attorney’s office expects more charges when the case goes in front of a grand jury.

PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria Police say a man has been arrested after two women were shot Sunday night, leaving one of the victims brain dead.
Police say 43-year-old Stevie Linwood was identified as the suspect in the shooting that occurred in the area of El Vista and Leroy Avenues just after 8:00 P.M.
35-year-old Zaneta Winters was pronounced brain dead Monday just after 2:00 P.M. The identity and condition of the other woman has not yet been released.
Peoria Police arrested Linwood Monday in the area of Forrest Hill and Gale on two counts of attempted murder and taken to the Peoria County Jail.
Police reportedly found a discarded handgun in the area where Linwood was arrested.
