PEORIA, Ill. – It’s that time of year again. The time when the population of Peoria grows by the thousands.
It’s Move-in Weekend at Bradley University is scheduled. Multiple road closures and traffic restrictions are already in place around the Hilltop.
The bulk of the activity people will see and experience will be on Saturday.
“It’s a busy day,” said Corry Bosco, Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life at Bradley University. “We get a lot of car traffic coming in. Some of the streets may be closed or blocked off to help ease that traffic flow.”
Delays should be expected on North University between West Columbia Terrace and West Main Street, and at the University and Main Streets intersection.
Bosco said he was a commuter student during his undergraduate years at Bradley but helping new students get acclimated to their new surroundings is special.
“Seeing the freshmen walk in and (seeing) they’re excited to be there, excited about a new experience on campus and experience what everyone talks about, about going to college, and being able to help them settle in, find their place and find their connection is very powerful,” Bosco said.
Moving into their dorms is just the start of a full schedule of get-acquainted activities planned for students before the start of fall semester classes Wednesday.
“We have our first- night experience on the quad and that starts off their opening weekend experience,” Bosco said. “The freshmen have a number of programs and experiences they get to go through from speaker programs, to our convocation and our welcome bash before we even get to classes.”
“The ‘Taste of Bradley’ is always an exciting event where food trucks come and students get a chance to experience what it is to be in the Peoria area and the nice food options that are around,” Bosco said.
“We have our activities fair for students to get involved Tuesday before classes start. There’s also Late-Night B.U. I could go on and on with all the activities that we have line up for the students who come into campus.”
