PEORIA, Ill. – There’s a new man in charge of the Peoria city treasurer’s office.
The Peoria Council Tuesday unanimously appointed Chester “Chet” Tomczyk to the post.
Tomczyk takes over Wednesday for former treasurer Stephen Morris to stepped aside due to professional and personal obligations.
The city treasurer is responsible for the administration and management of the collection, verification, recording and depositing of all taxes, fines and fees due to the city.
Tomczyk is a former President and Chief Executive Officer of WTVP-TV and Central Illinois Public Media. His 20-year tenure included the oversight of all media operations, including finance, fundraising, operations and community relations.
Tomczyk also led the station through the change from analog to digital broadcasting, which also transitioned to high-definition and online programming.
Tomczyk has volunteered with Illinois Public Broadcasting Council, Pediatric Resource Center, Illinois Valley Public Telecommunications Corporation and served as a commissioner for the city’s Human Resource Commission.
“Chet Tomczyk brings a wealth of knowledge and proven track record of leadership to this vital role,” said Peoria Mayor Rita Ali in a statement. “With is track record in our community, we are thrilled he applied for the position. I am confident that his expertise will ensure our city’s responsible fiscal practices.”
Tomczyk will serve pending the consolidated election for City Treasurer April 1, 2025.
