PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria woman accused in the death of her infant son pleaded not guilty in court Thursday.
The Peoria County Circuit Clerk’s Office confirms the plea from 19-year-old Zenai Wolford, who faces one count of Endangering Life or Health of Child.
Wolford’s son, Kaine, was taken to a local hospital in the early morning hours of July 26th.
Police say a plastic bag, reportedly with ecstasy in it, was found in the crib and had been chewed on.
Wolford reportedly admitted to buying the drugs and storing them in her bra, and claims the bag fell into the crib when she bent over to put Kaine to bed.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood ruled the death a homicide.
Wolford’s trial is scheduled for October 21st.
