MACOMB, Ill. — The Macomb Police Department says two officers were shot Wednesday evening, prompting an emergency alert on the campus of Western Illinois University nearby.
The officers were shot while serving a warrant in the 300 block of N. Normal Street.
Wednesday night, the officers were listed in critical, but stable condition. They both have been released from the hospital.
“Law enforcement remains on scene, the incident is isolated to the 300 block of North Normal. Please avoid the area — there is no active threat to the community at this time. Out of an abundance of caution, Western Illinois University and Wesley Daycare have closed their campuses for Thursday, September 5th,” Macomb Police Chief Jeff Hamer says.
The suspect is reportedly still barricaded in their home.
“The tactical operation, and ongoing investigation has been turned over to the Illinois State Police. Further updates from the Macomb Police Department will be coordinated with the Illinois State Police.” Hamer says.

In a Facebook post, Macomb Police said the officers were shot while serving a warrant in the 300 block of N. Normal Street.
The officers were reported to be in critical, but stable condition Wednesday night.
Initially, Corbin-Olson residence hall on the WIU campus was put on lockdown due to the apparent safety threat.
Macomb Police said there is no active threat to the community, but due to the ongoing police presence near campus, WIU will be closed Thursday.
