PEORIA, Ill. – A man died last week at Peoria’s Metro Centre after officials say his own vehicle struck him.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says first responders were called near the 50’s Diner just after 1:00 P.M. Friday.
Harwood says 76-year-old Richard Wilson was getting an item from his 1949 Chevy when he inadvertently put the gear in neutral, causing the vehicle to roll backwards.
He says Wilson attempted to stop the vehicle but it rolled on top of him. Several bystanders lifted the car off Wilson to free him.
Harwood says Wilson was taken to OSF Saint Francis in grave condition, unresponsive, not breathing, and with no pulse. He was pronounced dead just before 1:45 P.M.
Harwood says Wilson suffered severe chest trauma and likely died moments following the incident.
