PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria Public Schools Board unanimously approved pay raises for nearly a thousand teachers and for campus safety officers on Monday.
The school board approved a two-year contract extension for members of the Peoria Federation of Teachers, giving teachers an average 5.7-percent salary increase each year, according to 25 News.
Teachers will also receive a yearly retention bonus of $1,250.
Peoria Teachers Union President Jeff Atkins-Dutro says 96-percent of members ratified the agreement.
“We have our executive board reps and members here to remind you that a vote of yes is a vote for public education,” Atkins-Dutro said to the board.
The school board also ratified a three-year contract with the union representing campus safety officers. They will get annual raises of 5, 4.5 and 4-percent, and receive retention bonuses of $1,250 in the first two years.
