MORTON, Ill. – Morton’s 58th annual Pumpkin Festival gets underway on Wednesday.
Jacque Austin, with the Morton Chamber of Commerce, says the food is always a big draw with pumpkin pancakes, pumpkin ice cream, pumpkin chili, pumpkin donuts…but, there’s also a lot of entertainment.
“On Wednesday, we have our Pumpkin Princesses, which is always a big draw for all the grade school kids to come see their friends compete for (the title of) Pumpkin Princess. We have the Kiddie Parade…of course for the Saturday Parade, people reserve their seats well in advance on Jefferson, so that they have a spot to watch the parade…there’s a big Midway with a ton of rides,” Austin says.
There are bands performing, events for Seniors and kids alike.
This year’s theme for the Morton Pumpkin Festival is “Pumpkins Run For The Roses”…with Kentucky Derby-type floats, fancy hats and costumes in Saturday’s parade.
Before the parade Saturday morning, there’s the annual Pumpkin Pancake Breakfast. Pumpkin donuts will also be available at the Pumpkin Festival (Food) Drive-Thru.
