UPDATED 5:14 P.M.
PEORIA, Ill. – A Chicago woman has been charged with murder in connection to the death of her infant son in Peoria on Monday.
Court and jail records show that 25-year-old Andrea Luncsford has been charged with First Degree Murder, and Endangering Life or Health of Child, a Class Three felony.
Luncsford’s son, one-month-old Grayson, died Monday of severe dehydration and hyperthermia.
25 News reports prosecutors had testified that Andrea was behaving erratically when Peoria Police arrived on the scene at around 7:00 P.M. Monday, and may have been under the influence of a substance at the time. She allegedly tested positive for having cocaine in her system.
Luncsford’s father had reported that she was calling him all day before the incident, asking for gas money, telling Andrea that he would not do so. He reportedly texted her beforehand, saying “You know that baby can overheat and die. Please let us help you.” The father also says Andrea tried to drive away before they got Grayson out of the rented U-Haul truck they were in.
Police report that Andrea was driving all over the state on September 14th, in areas such as Chicago, Morton, East Peoria, and Peoria. Andrea had attended the funeral for Grayson’s father the prior day in Chicago. Police obtained pictures of Grayson wearing the same clothes that he attended the funeral in on the day he died.
On Tuesday, Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says Grayson was left in a hot vehicle for an unknown amount of time, but believes it was more than four hours. Further autopsy results reveal Grayson may have been dead for 12-24 hours.
A pretrial detention hearing for Andrea was continued to Thursday, where prosecutors requested she be held until her trial.
