UPDATED 5:35 P.M. – An 81-year-old man was the victim in a fire Wednesday night in South Peoria.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says Raul Rosas was pronounced dead at the scene of the fire just before 11:15 P.M.
The fire at Rosas’ house in the area of Garden and Greenlawn was called in at around 9:30 P.M.
Firefighters found Rosas deceased in the home, which took around 40 minutes to put out.
Harwood says an autopsy on Rosas is scheduled for Friday.

PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria firefighters were called to the area of Garden and Greenlawn Wednesday night on reports of a residential fire.
Fire Battalion Chief Jeff Hascall says while en route to the scene around 9:30 p.m., Peoria Police reported seeing heavy smoke coming from a home in the 1800 block of W. Garden.
First crews on the scene found heavy smoke throughout the home and fire in the back of it, with reports of a possible victim inside.
A search was conducted, and a victim was found deceased in the home. Peoria Police and the Peoria County Coroner’s Office were notified. More information will come from the coroner.
It took firefighters around 40 minutes to bring the fire under control. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Damage to the home was estimated at $85,000. Crews remained on the scene to put out hot spots and aid in the investigation.
No firefighter injuries were reported.
