PEORIA Ill. – Members of the Peoria Fire Department gathered outside city hall this morning – to honor those fallen in the line of duty.
It was the department’s annual Fallen Firefighters Memorial, which pays tribute to firefighters who lost their lives in Peoria, and across the U.S., throughout the past year.
Peoria Fire’s Honor Guard Commander, Tom Stimeling, shares a message to his fallen brothers and sisters.
“We carry your memories with us, may your legacy inspire future generations of firefighters to serve with the same courage and dedication that you showed,” Tom Stimeling said.
Peoria Fire Chief, Shawn Sollberger, also spoke at the memorial — taking time to brag on the courage it takes, to do the job.
“Rare are the individuals who run towards danger — and even more rare are the ones who can do it with grace and dignity. No one can do this job alone,” Chief Shawn Sollberger said.
The event wrapped with a ceremonial “ringing of the bells” and the reading of the names, of those fallen.
