PEORIA Ill. – The Bradley Braves basketball season unofficially kicked off Tuesday night.
It was the men’s and women’s team Spaghetti Supper — an annual fundraiser which allows players to meet their fan-base, while serving pasta from Avanti’s.
Bradley Men’s head coach, Brian Wardle, says he’s excited to get the season going — but there’s still plenty of work to do before then.
“I need another three-weeks, so prepping my team, getting them better, getting them prepared. It kind of gets the juices going and kind of makes you feel like college basketball is around the corner,” Brian Wardle said.
The event puts Braves’ players in a serving role — something women’s head coach, Kate Popovec-Goss, says is good for her athletes.
“This is the kind of community that bleeds basketball, so I love the fact that our kids can get a little one-on-one time, a little bit more personal time with their fans, to interact, to say hello, to answer questions,” Kate Popevec-Goss said.
Both the men’s and women’s teams will host their “Red-White Showcase” this Saturday, at Renaissance Coliseum, starting at 11am.
It’s free for the community to attend.
