CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – An Illinois State Police trooper was killed in a two-vehicle crash Friday in Champaign County.
The trooper is identified by ISP as 28-year-old Corey Thompsen. He had worked almost five years with State Police, according to a release.
The crash happened around 3:40 p.m. while Trooper Thompson was on duty. ISP says details of the crash on East Leverett Road at County Road 1300 East are still being investigated.
Thompsen was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead just after 4:30 p.m. Friday.
Illinois State Police Director Brendan Kelly issued the following statement:
“It is with a heavy heart and immeasurable sadness that I inform you of the death of Trooper Corey S. Thompsen. We ask the public to give Trooper Thompsen’s family, and his ISP family, time while we grieve and work through this tragedy.”
Trooper Thompsen is survived by his wife, mother and father.
