CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Drought conditions are getting worse in central Illinois, but relief could soon be on the way.
The latest U.S. Drought Monitor report released Thursday shows all of Peoria, Tazewell, Woodford, and surrounding counties in moderate drought conditions. The report measures conditions up to Tuesday of the reported week.
All of Tazewell and Woodford Counties were at 100% drought last week, with only around 56% of Peoria County in moderate drought the week prior.
Across the state, conditions are worse in the northern half, with some northwest border counties seeing severe drought.
Drought could be lessened in the next week or two, with forecasters predicting heavy rainfall overnight Thursday and late next week.
