PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria International Airport’s air traffic control tower project is receiving more funding.
The airport announced Thursday that a grant of $13.5 million has been secured by U.S. Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth.
It’s the third grant the tower project has received. The project previously received two separate grants totaling around 30 million dollars.
“We’re excited to receive this new grant, which significantly closes the gap to completing this project,” said Gene Olson, Director of Airports for the Metropolitan Airport Authority of Peoria. “We’re now within reach of having this project fully funded.
The announcement comes on the heels of a groundbreaking ceremony Monday for the new tower.
The tower is expected to be 146 feet tall, compared to the current tower’s 90 feet, and meet federal ADA requirements.
