PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria man has been sentenced to more than a decade in federal prison on drug and weapons charges.
35-year-old Johnathan Sargent was sentenced Thursday to 11 years in federal prison, followed by four years of supervised release.
Sargent was arrested in February after search warrants were executed at two residences, his vehicle, and himself. His charges related to possessing methamphetamine, heroin, and cocaine with intent to distribute, along with possessing a firearm as a felon.
Prosecutors say a search of his apartment turned up 415 grams of pure methamphetamine, 87 grams of heroin, and 77 grams of cocaine. The search also turned up a loaded handgun, more than $5,000 in cash, and along with packaging materials and several scales.
Sargent was indicted in March and pleaded guilty in June.
During the sentencing hearing, U.S. District Judge Micahel Mihm determined that Sargent’s conduct was not an isolated incident, but instead a business he operated over a period of time. It was stated that Sargent’s apartment was a “one stop shop” for the drugs.
Sargent could have faced 10 years to life for the possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine charge, up to 20 years on the heroin and cocaine charge each, and up to 15 years on the firearm charge.
