PEORIA, Ill. – The neighbor who was shot after she came to aid a Peoria woman who was herself shot in August has passed away.
Peoria Police say the neighbor succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead just after 1:20 A.M. Tuesday. The Peoria County Coroner will release the identity of the neighbor and the cause of death at a later date.
The shooting occurred on the evening of August 11th when 43-year-old Stevie Linwood allegedly shot his girlfriend, 35-year-old Zaneta Winters, at her home in the area of El Vista and Leroy. Winters died the next day.
Prosecutors say Linwood and Winters were reportedly arguing over infidelity, and was unsure of when he grabbed the gun, nor of when he did the shooting. The couple’s seven-year-old son was reportedly in the house at the time of the shooting.
Witnesses testified that Linwood reportedly stood over the neighbor after shooting her and walked away.
Linwood is charged with First Degree Murder in the death of Winters. Peoria Police says the case is being referred to the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office for additional charges against Linwood.
