PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria man accused of shooting and killing a ten-year-old at an apartment complex last month has been indicted by a grand jury.
33-year-old Maurice Sargent was indicted Tuesday on two felony counts; First Degree Murder and Armed Habitual Criminal.
Sargent is accused in the death of 10-year-old Torres Lamar Johnson on the evening of September 29th at the CityScape Apartments.
Police say the shooting came from an alleged drug deal between Sargent and two juveniles.
Johnson was walking nearby when he was reportedly struck by an errant bullet shot by Sargent.
Sargent is due back in court Thursday morning for an arraignment hearing.
