PEORIA, Ill. – The price at the pump in Peoria is falling.
GasBuddy reports a $3.26/g average for unleaded in the Peoria area today. The average is 6.4 cents lower than a week ago, 7.9 cents lower than a month ago, and 17 cents lower than one year ago.
GasBuddy says the cheapest gas in Peoria is now under three dollars, at $2.99/g, with the most expensive at $3.59/g.
AAA is reporting a $3.29/g average in the Peoria-Pekin metro area. Their average is 4.5 cents lower than last week, 8.4 cents lower than a month ago, and 17.2 cents lower than one year ago.
Analysts say gas prices will continue to fall nationwide, with the national average creeping closer to under $3/g.
“While much of the attention this week will be on the election and how it could potentially change the trajectory of the nation, gasoline prices are likely to be a gift to the next president, staying much lower than in previous years when COVID and Russia’s war on Ukraine caused a surge that’s unlikely to repeat, no matter who wins the election,” says GasBuddy head of petroleum analysis Patrick De Haan. “For now, Americans can expect the downward trend to continue in most states, while other states have seen prices jump temporarily due to a behavior we track called price cycling. We should see the number of states with sub-$3-per-gallon prices grow as we get closer to Thanksgiving.”
Across Illinois, GasBuddy is reporting a $3.23/g average, down four cents from last week. The cheapest price reported in Illinois is $2.54/g, with the highest at $4.79/g. AAA says the Illinois average is $3.26/g, down 4.3 in the past week.
GasBuddy says the national average is $3.05/g, down 2.2 cents in the past week. The average is 11.8 lower than a month ago, and 34.5 cents lower than a year ago. AAA is reporting a $3.10/g national average.
