PEORIA Ill. – Peoria firefighters were called to a home on Peoria’s southside Thursday afternoon, for a residential house fire.
The fire was located at 1508 West Aiken Avenue — and according to residents of the neighborhood — the fire started around 3:20pm.
We spoke with two women who claimed their grandmother lived in the home, before passing away in 2021.
Sonya Lindwood and Danele Sheard say they were on scene right away, after receiving a call from a former neighbor.
They told us the house was supposed to be demolished back in October — but it never happened.
The two were lost for words as they watched the home go up in flames.
“We were all raised in this house — it just really hurts,” Lindwood and Sheard said.
The house is said to be getting an emergency demolition, but WMBD Radio News awaits official word.
The cause of the fire is currently undetermined and is under further investigation.
