PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria is all “abuzz” with the announcement that the Scottish Rite Theater is reopening.
The venue, that’s been closed since last April, is under new management.
TempleLive Music Group’s Director of Operations, Garrett Zimmerman, tells WMBD’s “Greg and Dan” they specialize in the preservation and restoration of historic buildings…repurposing them to better serve the community.
“Typically, we’ve worked with Masonic Temples, a lot of them being Scottish Rites. We come in…we do what needs to be done, some of them have gotten into pretty dilapidated conditions. We come in…repair, replace, fix, update…but, also try to preserve the way they were,” Zimmerman says.
When it comes to shows and events, TempleLive does just about everything…with wrestling, comedy, music of all genres. But, they also do private events like off-site meetings, fundraisers, galas, weddings and more…accommodating crowds of up to 2,500.
Zimmerman is already in town…learning as much as he can about what Peorians want to see. He says he spends at least a year (or two) in each city where TempleLive opens a venue.
“That’s what I’m doing here now. I’ll be living in Peoria for the next year or so, maybe more…but so far I love Peoria…it’s a great little town,” Zimmerman says.
Events at the Scottish Rite will begin in the spring, as early as March. An initial lineup of shows and events will be released by TempleLive in January.
Zimmerman says he will be hiring for a number of positions at the Scottish Rite Theater in the coming weeks.
