PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria residents will not get a property tax break in the budget passed by the city council Tuesday night.
The $288 million FY 2025 budget does include over $43 million to cover employee benefits and pensions.
At the council’s last meeting, City Manager Patrick Urich said $65 million would go towards infrastructure projects including roads and sewers.
The budget also includes a 7.8-percent increase in total property taxes to be collected, based on higher property values in the city.
At their last meeting, council members voted against keeping the property tax levy flat in FY 2025. They also discussed adding a city tax on groceries, replacing the state’s 1-percent tax levy that expires in 2026.
According to 25 News, that tax was not brought up at Tuesday’s meeting.
Peoria’s garbage and sewer fees will remain at the current rate next year.
