PEORIA Ill. – Peoria City Council has unanimously approved the annexation of a property near Dunlap — to be used for an outdoor recreation facility.
Peoria’s Assistant Director of Community Development, Leah Allison, says there are plenty of things locals should be excited for.
“Today, the development includes go-karts, mini-golf course, no batting cages. The development allows for a track one and an option for a track two, all just go-karts,” Allison said.
The vote occurred during Tuesday night’s council meeting, with city officials claiming the new site will contain a mini-golf course, two go-kart tracks, as well as multiple food and dessert vendors.
Peoria resident, Nate Miller, has family who lives in the area — and was one of the individuals who spoke-out against the amusement park.
“In a perfect world, we wouldn’t have the go-karts at all, we wouldn’t have the miniature golf courses, we wouldn’t have this project in this area, because of the effect it could have on nearby neighbors. What we feel are potential issues with traffic, safety, security, land-value, lighting, and future development in that area,” Miller said.
The owners of the property claim to be addressing these concerns — by making the go-karts electric, and ensuring the lighting won’t be a problem by having the light poles be shorter than 30ft.
