PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria firefighter was injured while fighting a fire that appears to have been intentionally set Friday night.
Crews responded to a fire call around 7:15 p.m. Friday to a vacant home in the 1300 block of W. Millman Street, near S. Louisa Street, on Peoria’s south side.
Peoria Fire Battalion Chief Jeff Hascall says the firefighter was injured when the porch he was standing on collapsed underneath him. No one else was hurt.
Fire was showing on the back of the home when crews arrived. The fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes, Hascall says.
Fire investigators determined arson was the cause of the fire.
The home was a total loss with damage estimated at $40,000.
