PEORIA, Ill. – The man found guilty in a shooting at a Peoria gas station has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.
26-year-old Patrick Meyer was sentenced Monday to 38 years for Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking and two years for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon. The prison terms must be served one after the other.
Meyer was found guilty in October for the December 14th, 2022 shooting at the Shell on Knoxville and Nebraska.
Meyer shot a male victim nine times after forcing him out of his vehicle and taking the vehicle. The victim was attempting to take his daughter to work at the time of the shooting.
Prosecutors say the victim’s family did not know for three days if he would survive the shooting, and his daughter lost her job after taking a lot of time off to care for him. While the victim survived, he endured a lengthy hospital stay and multiple surgeries, as well a bullet lodged in his hip.
