PEORIA Ill. – Just one day before the Thanksgiving holiday — workers at Peoria’s Liberty Steel learned they will be out of a job for at least the next two months — and definitely through the holidays.
25News reports that in a letter from Peoria Steel Vice President and General Manager, Michael Richards, wrote to inform managers that Wire Mill operations will be idled from December 6th through at least February 3rd.
The letter cites ongoing disruptions in rod supply chain and finances.
Liberty Steel on Adams Street in Peoria claims to be one of the largest wire and rod mills in the U.S. — producing 700,000 tons of steel each year.
