PEORIA HEIGHTS, Ill. – A family and their dogs have been displaced after a Peoria Heights house fire Tuesday morning.
Fire Chief Dan Decker says the call came in at around 7:20 A.M. to the area of Marietta and Indiana.
He says an investigation reveals the fire was unintentional and started in a toaster, and spread throughout the house when the occupants attempted to put it out.
The home received extensive damage in the kitchen, and smoke damage throughout the house. Damage is estimated at $50,000.
Three people in the home and three dogs needed temporary housing after the fire. Decker says the Red Cross was called to assist them.
