PEORIA Ill. – Peoria City Council discussed possible locations for a new land-based casino, Tuesday night.
They unanimously approved multiple agreements regarding a future land-based casino in Peoria city limits, like agreeing to hire John Elias of Elias, Meginnes, and Seghetti P-C — for legal services, in regards to the Casino.
Peoria’s Corporation Council, Patrick Hayes, on the decision.
“We’ve done a number of projects both with John and John on the other side of the table. He knows what he’s doing. He adds a lot of credibility and acumen and makes our team rounds out our team in a way that I think would be compelling for Boyd of its considerations of the options within the city of Peoria,” Hayes said.
The council also approved the retention and authorization for the City Manager to enter into an agreement with Innovation Capital L-L-C, for investment Banking services related to the potential casino.
The location of a potentially new casino has been up for debate for some time now — with Peoria city council members citing the intergovernmental agreement of 1991, for the reason of it’s preferred location.
“If there was ever any land-based casino operations, it would be in the city of Peoria. State law also echoes that sentiment. The current license that’s authorized for operations of a riverboat in East Peoria states right after that and with board approval, land based operations within the city of Peoria,” Patrick Hayes said.
