PEORIA, Ill. – A former Peoria mayoral candidate has been indicted on numerous felony charges relating to his petitions.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 23-year-old Jacob Ryan was indicted Tuesday on single counts of Perjury and Mutilation of Election Materials, and 11 counts of Forgery.
An attorney raised an objection to Ryan’s petition on November 4th, claiming that multiple signatures were forged.
Eleven people provided sworn statements that they did not sign Ryan’s petition, even though their names were present on documents filed with the Peoria County Election Commission.
Ryan withdrew from the race on November 8th.
The three candidates remaining in the race are current Mayor Rita Ali, and councilmen Chuck Grayeb and John Kelly.
