EAST PEORIA Ill. – East Peoria officials and police officers broke ground on a brand-new police department Friday morning.
It’s located at 500 West Camp Street — this new $21.6 million project will replace the current East Peoria Public Safety building, which has been in use since 1987.
The new facility will be a two-story 38,000 square-foot building and will provide new opportunities for both the community and department, according to Mayor John Kahl.
“We view public safety as a top priority, we take it very seriously and we don’t apologize for it. This is really a testament to that, when this project wraps up and this building is open, it will be a sense of pride for everybody,” said Kahl.
The goal is to have the new facility completed by June of 2026.
