PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria firefighters were called to a residence on N. Nottingham Place Friday morning on reports of a fire outside the home.
Peoria Fire Battalion Chief Rick Waldron says crews arrived just before 7 a.m., finding heavy smoke and flames coming from a hot tub that had extended up the exterior and back of the home, and into its interior.
Firefighters were able to put out the fire on the home’s exterior, then moved inside. Once inside, they found heavy smoke and fire in the living room, kitchen and the attic.
A primary search found no one was inside the home. The fire was extinguished within 15 minutes.
Waldron says three residents and three dogs were able to escape the fire before crews arrived. One cat was still unaccounted for.
A fire investigator determined the fire was unintentional, with the cause still under investigation.
No injuries were reported. All three residents of the home were displaced.
Damage is estimated at $150,000.
