PEORIA, Ill. – Respiratory illnesses have hit Central Illinois hard.
Dr. Doug Kasper, Infectious Disease Specialist with OSF HealthCare, tells WMBD’s “Greg and Dan”, right now their clinics are seeing a lot of Influenza A, or the flu…RSV, walking pneumonia and Covid-19.
“For the most part, all of these infections are fairly self-limited in a person who is otherwise healthy, up-to-date on vaccinations, those types of things. They’ll be down for a few days, and they should pick back up fairly quickly. But, for people who linger, especially if you have a sustained fever…we see people with fevers of 101 or 102 for three, four or five days, or if you really feel like your symptoms are progressing, the best thing to do is to go be seen,” Kasper says.
Kasper adds, if you have the flu, the best treatment is Tami-Flu…and it’s important to start taking it as early as you can for it to be effective.
Due to so many respiratory illnesses circulating in our communities, OSF Saint Francis Medical Center and the Children’s Hospital of Illinois in Peoria are requiring everyone to start wearing masks as of Tuesday, December 31.
The hospitals are also limiting the number of visitors per patient to two until further notice, and visitors must be at least 18-years-old.
