PEORIA, Ill. – Sunday night brought central Illinois’ first winter storm of the season.
The Peoria area avoided the worst of the storm when it comes through the area on Sunday night. But 25 News First Alert Chief Meteorologist Chuck Collins is forecasting 2-4” to fall. Heavier amounts are expected to fall south of I-74 towards Lincoln.
Collins also says gusty north winds will be a factor in the storm, causing blowing and drifting snow. He says other concerns will occur after dark, with poor visibility and slick roads.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Peoria, Woodford, and Tazewell Counties until Monday at noon. But a Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Fulton and Mason Counties.
The National Weather Service’s updated projections for Sunday predict the Peoria area to receive 2-5”. NWS meteorologists are also warning of what comes after the storm, with cold temperatures throughout the week. While they are predicting the Peoria area to have highs in the mid-20s, wind chills are expected to drop as low as single digits for the week.
