PEORIA, Ill. – Light snow began falling across Central Illinois overnight, and it will continue Friday morning.
25 News First Alert Chief Meteorologist Chuck Collins says he’s issued a First Alert Weather Morning until 12 p.m.
“We’re not expecting big amounts of snow, but enough to cause problems for the morning commute. Peoria will see up to 3 inches by the time the snow winds down early this (Friday) afternoon. We could see 3-4 inches along I-55, including Bloomington-Normal. Lesser amounts are expected in Western Illinois,” Collins says.
A Winter Weather Advisory from the National Weather Service in Lincoln will remain in effect until 6 p.m. Friday.
Peoria Public Works says the city’s primary streets are in good condition and very drivable. Extra caution, however, should still be used as some roads, primarily residential streets, may be partially snow-covered, and slick in spots.
Drivers should give themselves extra time to reach their morning commute destinations. Remember to take it slower than normal and to give yourself more stopping distance.
Stay alert on the roads, as road conditions can change quickly when snow is falling.
