PEKIN Ill. – With several snowfalls being in the weather forecast within the past week, a reminder to help out your local mail carrier.
According to Abbey Bort, a mail carrier in Pekin, there are many houses in her delivery route that have mailboxes attached to the home, causing deliveries in the snow to get complicated at times.
She tells us, there are a few things residents can do to help ensure safe deliveries.
“Brushing off the stairs, a lot of people have stairs that lead up to their front porch or their mailboxes are right up front by their door. Simply just throwing some salt out there or maybe making a pathway and clearing off those slick steps,” Bort said.
Bort adds, if your mailbox is at the end of your driveway – make sure you don’t block it, while shoveling it.
