PEORIA, Ill. – Average gas prices in Peoria are unchanged in the last week, averaging $3.18 a gallon on Monday, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 148 stations in Peoria.
Peoria’s prices are 1.5 cents higher than a month ago, and just over 17 cents higher than a year ago.
According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest gas in Peoria on Sunday was $2.92 a gallon, while the most expensive gas was $3.29. The lowest price in the state was $2.75 and the highest price statewide was $4.59.
The national average price of gas has dropped just over a penny a gallon in the last week, averaging $3.02 on Monday.
“It’s been a relatively quiet week for the national average price of gasoline, with little overall movement. However, colder weather has pushed diesel prices higher and could also impact gasoline prices if refiners face disruptions,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
De Haan adds, “While gas prices haven’t shifted significantly yet, oil prices have climbed to their highest level since October, driven by President Biden’s new sanctions on so-called dark vessels, which have slowed countries like Iran’s ability to sell oil. This could soon lead to more noticeable increases in gas prices. Seasonally weak demand may help soften the impact of any increases for now, but with refinery maintenance season just weeks away—when refiners typically reduce gasoline production—motorists should be prepared for the spring rally to kick off.”
Meanwhile, AAA says the average price of unleaded gas in the Peoria/Pekin metro area was $3.19 on Monday, while the state average was $3.23 and the national average price was $3.06 a gallon.
